Hana's (outside Dutch) Town Adventures: Antwerp

5:11 AM

Hey guys! Last weekend I went to Antwerp!

I was so excited because I know nothing about Antwerp but the fact that it's my favourite shade of NYX's Soft Matte Lip Cream (ha!). Antwerp is about one and a half hour from Den Haag. Me and some friends took a train to Roosendaal and from there bought an international ticket to Antwerp, which is one station away. Sadly, the Dutch trains are not on our side. Due to a catenary some trains are diverted so we had to spend about two hours more on the journey. But, it's okay!

The first thing to enjoy is the station building itself. Doesn't it make you think about how people live back in the day? People spend so much on their buildings, it's amazing. Nowadays people build just for the utility not for beauty. I hope this station will survive for a long time.

Our agenda is to visit the Antwerp Zoo, which is next to the station. It's interesting to see that the word 'dieren turn' translates literally to 'kebun binatang'. By the way, this part of Belgium speaks (Belgium) Dutch, hence the Dutch words.

Towards the end of the year, the zoo's entry is in discounted price. It was EUR 17,50 and we (as students) only pay EUR 7,50. It's mainly because they have some constructions so not all animals can be seen plus some animals might start hibernating so we can't see them as well. I guess it's still a good deal because you can still see some animals. Here are my favourites!

After spending the day there, we thought of getting a Belgian Waffle. TripAdvisor suggested Desire de Lille which is located towards the old city. We went through Antwerp's shopping district, Meir, and I was in heaven. Den Haag is good but Antwerp is even better. Maybe more so because Uniqlo just recently opened. BUT their collection are all winter PLUS so expensive compared to Jakarta. I feel damn lucky to be able to shop at Uniqlo Jakarta.

We got to the waffle place and got this baby for EUR 2,50. It may look full but it's actually very thin and hollow. I prefer more fuller waffles but it was good. Afterwards, we cannot not get Belgium chocolate. We stopped by Leonidas with their amazing selection of praline. I paid EUR 3,00 for four pieces of praline and a chocolate bar. It was delicious.

I will definitely go back to Antwerp because I think there are more to see, especially the historic area. Plus the shopping is good.

See you on the next trip: Delft!
