A Day of a Student Abroad
2:40 PMHey guys,
It's been almost a year since I moved to Den Haag, The Netherlands and that means I'll be leaving soon! Time flies!
To be frank, I regret taking the one year master - I should've gone for a two year master, preferably in Australia so I'll be closer to home. A one year master was truly jammed packed with courses, internship and thesis writing - to a point where I think I didn't put a maximum effort on them, in order to meet the one year deadline. Despite these regrets, I will never forget my Dutch days.
07:00 AM
Wakes up, social media scrolling, put bread on toaster (if anything I'm now super chill with having just toast in the morning #turnedeuropean)
08:58 AM
The earliest train I can catch to get the 40% discount, right after rush hour, to Leiden. Dutch train or the Nederlandse Spoorwegen is famous for being very expensive. Transportation in general is. That's why people opt for bikes - except me. Trivia: a friend said the first railways the Dutch built back in the day was partially funded by the massive income the Dutch get from plantations in Indonesia during the colonial period. You're welcome!
09:30 AM
Either in class, doing assignments, generally on the computer
12:00ish PM
Lunch. Dutch people's definition of lunch is sandwich. My definition of lunch is a warm meal. Hana's lunch choice: any soup of the day, some salad, or some patat and kroket. Their soup is the cheapest warm meal available, at least in my faculty. Weirdest flavour? Gado-gado soup. No thank you.
1:00 PM
More classes, assignments, typing away on my MacBook
4:00 PM
Coffee fix. My caffeine, alcohol and ice cream intake significantly increases throughout the year. The Netherlands have a big coffee culture. Ah, I love small cafes with my cappuccino and my book.
6:30 PM
The earliest train back to Den Haag, after rush hour. Cook dinner, watch some Youtube, catch up on some reading,
