Weekly Food Update #1
7:00 AMHey guys!
I decided to jazz up my blog name (changing it, basically). Initially I wanted to make this a personal journal but now, I'll just stick to what I do best: eating. So, still in the 'exciting' sparkling theme I chose the name syrup because it's sweet so there you go an exciting sweetness. I'll do reviews of the exciting food I devoured and do little stories on food I eat that week. Here is my weekly food update, the first edition.
Wrapping up my Lebaran break I went and met several friends and ate these goodies. I'm obsessed with tasting every Wingstop wings flavors. I had the Hawaiian, Lemon Pepper, Hickory BBQ, Mild and Garlic Parmesan. For me, Mild is winning. It was just super tasty and interesting to eat. The others were just plain common and tasted nothing special. Still on my bucket list: Original Hot and Louisiana Rub. I cannot go Atomic and Cajun. That is all. For five pieces of classic wings + 2 extra boneless wings will charge you about 50k.
For a quick and cheap treats, I go to Warung Pasta. Yes, it is a fancy place for students such as myself on a tight budget, but hey it's better than trying to cook it by yourself, just as a treat. Come to think of it, most of the dishes here can be easily replicated by yourself at home. For example, I ordered Red Bull, which is basically spaghetti and oil with tuna. They sprinkled tobiko and nori but you can still get them in the stores. I'm sure they use lots of garlic oil, salt and have salty spaghetti to begin with - but that's just my guess. For drinks, my friend and I got milkshakes, which was perfect that hot sunny day. Two medium pasta dishes and two fancy drinks set us back for 100k with tax and service charge. Not bad.
One dish that cannot go wrong is ramen. Oh how I love my ramen. Ikkudo Ichi makes a really good chicken ramen, here I got the signature chicken ramen for 47k and it was heavenly. I must say it lives up to the real Japanese chicken noodles (trust me, I tasted heaven back in Japan). But, after you had a bowl, it gave you a really terrible after taste of oh damn I just ate fat and broth. Seriously, their broth is so thick before you stir them around. I loved their noodle quality too. Not bad for under 50.
This last one for me was a disappointment. When I was at PIK, I saw this restaurant called Carnivor and I remember it also has a branch in Kelapa Gading, far more reachable from my house. We got there (which shares a place with Ikkudo Ichi, ironically) but I wasn't pleased. The greeter was impolite, offering us a bad table near the door when there were literally other empty tables. The restaurant was not busy so there was no reason why she gave us a terrible spot. I ordered the Salmon grill for 98k. Overpriced, nothing special, very small portion, bad presentation. We had a terrible experience. Enough said.
