Tempura Tendon Tenya and Yamagoya Ramen

5:10 PM

Hoi!

Since I have a thing for Japanese cuisine, I've loving the wide selection of Japanese food available in Jakarta. The taste isn't bad compared to what I myself had in Japan. The first stop is Tempura Tendon Tenya. It is a Japanese chain restaurant selling tempura rice bowls. I went there with my best friend Cay and there were some Japanese expats eating there. It has to be good right? Right!

After reading a few reviews about the place, I went for the Fish Tendon. It comes with three large pieces of fried fish on top of rice, with a miso soup. For drinks, just order the always healthy option of free flow green tea. I loved this! I must say it isn't a crunchy as I expected but it certainly was very good. The fish is huge! However, if you don't like just a fish-y taste, you can add the hot shoyu, it adds the flavour. I will definitely recommend this to you, because at 60k you'll get your money's worth.

The second place (on the same week) I visited was Yamagoya Ramen, located in Baywalk Mall, Pluit. For the record I NEVER want to come back to Pluit again (it's very far and foreign for someone who lives in East Jakarta). Initially, we wanted to try Sukiya because when we ate at Sukiya in Nara, I vowed to eat Sukiya again if it ever comes to Jakarta. Alas, my mum didn't want to eat rice bowls so we went for ramen instead.

After a few Googling action, Yamagoya is another Japanese chain of Kyushu type ramen, that means tonkotsu ramen based, aka pork bone broth. Don't get confused, that famous Hakkata Ikkousha restaurant is basically a Kyushu ramen. Tonkotsu originally came from Kyushu area in Japan. I loved this place! Wow, one of the best ramen I've ever tasted. The broth is very savoury without making me feel too heavy, the noodles are great, if only they add one more piece of the chasiu, that would be great. If you're in the neighbourhood, please come and taste it!

That's all for now

Always
